Chris Stapleton is placing his own spin on a Phil Collins classic.
The state-rock superstar recorded his possess rendition of Collins’ 1981 vintage “In the Air Tonight” to be the new anthem for ESPN’s “Monday Evening Football.”
Stapleton posted a limited teaser movie featuring his protect of the track, which characteristics rapper Snoop Dogg and drummer extraordinaire Cindy Blackman Santana, Sept. 18 on X, the social media website formerly known as Twitter.
The online video displays the eight-time Grammy winner putting on a cowboy hat and trenchcoat. Sounding eerily like Collins, Stapleton belts out the song’s lyrics, which inform the tale of a gentleman seething with fury right after a betrayal.
Snoop Dogg is witnessed pulling up in a vintage convertible when Blackman Santana, who’s laid down percussion for the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Joss Stone and late jazz fantastic Pharaoh Sanders, is guiding a drum established banging out the song’s right away recognizable beats.
